EARTHTALK - THE VOICE OF CLAY
Interconnection and Renewal Through Sound and Form
EarthTalk: The Voice of Clay is a ritual installation that honors ancestral wisdom and the primal voice. This project invites reflection on our connections to the living world, documented beside the Rio Grande, where the flow of water becomes a key element in auditory exploration.
The installation features harmonically shaped forms crafted from clay and adobe, evoking both phallic and breast-like imagery. These sculptures serve as a cosmogram, embodying themes of life, nourishment, and renewal. They create a dialogue with the river, amplifying its sounds and enhancing the experience of EarthTalk.
Through this work, I aim to raise awareness about the importance of water and the urgent need to protect it from pollution, particularly due to agricultural runoff. The water cycle—evaporation, condensation, and rain—reflects a continuous cycle of life, reminding us that the water we experience today has been part of our world for ages.
This installation highlights water’s ability to cleanse itself, showcasing its resilience. As we engage with these forms and listen to the river, we are reminded of the interconnectedness of all living things and our role as caretakers of this essential resource. EarthTalk invites us to consider our relationship with water and the environments that sustain us, celebrating the ongoing conversation between earth and water.
