⫷Earth Bhakti is a Creative Ecology by Artist Anja Marais Merging Art, Devotion, and Earth Stewardship.⫸

Before building "Mountain Shrine", I am placing pr Before building "Mountain Shrine", I am placing prayer capsules into the earth. One is holding the Hanuman Chalisa, along with mantras for peace, compassion, and strength.

Hanuman is being held close by many people in Taos, and his relationship with Vāyu—the wind—is fitting naturally into this work. As I am burying these words beneath the shrine, wind is moving through the pines and down the valley.

I am offering the mantras into that movement of peace, courage, and strength, flowing outward.

Piñon and ponderosa pines are growing across the m Piñon and ponderosa pines are growing across the mountains of Valdez. Wind is moving through their needles, lifting branches like skirts into the sky. The trees are debating among themselves as turkey vultures are choosing their roosts and swallows are gathering into the canopy.

As evening light is lowering, the trees are singing more loudly. The land is giving its consensus, and I am listening.

The earth art installation "Mountain Shrine" is rising within this conversation—singing with the trees, moving with the wind, and carrying air through the bodies gathering here.

Before breaking ground, I am introducing myself, m Before breaking ground, I am introducing myself, my family line, and my intention. I am bringing offerings to the land and its living beings, asking for permission and participation. Then I am sitting and waiting.

The land is speaking and gathering around me, while permission is arriving slowly. The land is asking for sweat, salt, and salt water.

Dry and airy, this place is carrying something Saturnian—asking for patience, discipline, and steady work. And I am answering with sweat, giving it with my whole heart.
